movies to books

Pretty Woman

Well I just watched Pretty Woman for the first time in a lot of years. I gotta say I think this is kinda the iconic movie for romance. I didn’t realize how much this movie has so many of the qualities in the different kinds of romance novels we all know and love. It’s almost like a template! I saw so many of the books I’ve read in this movie just with different plots. Not that this is a bad thing I really enjoyed the movie after not seeing it in at least 15 years and watching it I thought ‘man this is why I enjoy these books’ it’s just so feel good. I’ve read many times the “pretty woman” moment or something similar but I never realized that it had such an impact on the book world now.

My favorite line from the movie is when Julie Roberts says “if someone tells you something enough you start to believe them” then follows that up with “the bad stuff is easier to believe”. Well! I gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and part of that reason being I was seeing so many of my favorite characters in these two. Not always the hooker and the billionaire but the assistant and the CEO, the biker and the good girl, the lawyer and the college student all the scenarios that kinda start out and end similar to Pretty Woman. With all the getting to know you and ups and downs in the middle. Even the skeevy douche!

I gotta say I’m glad there was nothing else on TV that interested me and I decided to chance watching it again. It gave me the feels! The need to find that book that makes me feel all the characters emotions and the connection. I haven’t found what to read that will do this for me yet, but I’m looking hard haha.

Happy Reading Folks!

Ps let me know your thoughts on Pretty Woman…….

Where Did I Go!

What has happened to the last few months! I feel like time has flown by and I may be the worst blogger ever since I haven’t posted anything in forever! I promise I am going to do better. I’m going to start posting reviews on all or most of the books I read. Because let’s be honest not all books are for us and some of them just don’t need a review. I’m also thinking of fun ways to make the blog more interesting and fun to read instead of only reviews. So stay tuned I plan to work on this in the coming weeks!

Winter is a tough time where I live it’s cold and snowy and this year it has been a lot of both of those. So with that being said I have had a bit of the winter blues and did some re-reads of my favorites to get me through haha. It was helpful but no reviews needed really since they are my favorites and I’ve read them many of times over the years. So in the next coming weeks I’ll go back and review some of the new books I read and there are a few that were really great! I’ll also add some other fun things! So my question to all of you, if your still reading my blog, what would you like to see on here or even what book would you like to see me read? Suggestions people give me something! Shoot me your ideas!

For now I am off to read a book I just picked up that I gotta say I think it’s going to be a great read maybe even one of the best!

Happy Reading!

What do you do?

Alright so clearly I have some catching up to do. I have read some pretty amazing books this past month and need to tell everyone about them however I’m not sure where November went this past month has been crazy! So I’ll get on it, sorry for being so slow. But this post is about book stores!

How many of us have gone into a book store just to grab one thing or even just to browse and walk out spending over a hundred bucks. Every time, every single time I go into a book store I spend at least a hundred bucks! The other day I went out to grab my little man a few books and I couldn’t help myself I just couldn’t I bought so much. That damn place should come with a warning! I wasn’t even buying books for myself and still bought almost a hundred dollars worth of books. Jeeze it’s worse then an addiction, I swear I tried to hold back putting blinders on to all the pretty books and I still got sucked in. I just couldn’t help it, I love books too much! But what do you do? Their just so tempting! To make matters worse I have to go back to get some Christmas gifts and we all know I’ll be sucked in again!

How many times has this happened to you? What’s your crazy book store story let us know in the comments!

How Much Is Too Much…..Sex

In romance novels there should always be sex but when does it become too much? I’d say typically that just isn’t the case hahaha however every now and then I find myself skimming or just flat out skipping some sex scenes because I’m too into the actual story.

I think when it comes to the romance genre sex is a big part of the story, it helps us to see there connection and feel the main characters passion towards each other. However sometimes an author can get carried away with too many sex scenes. Sometimes it’s nice to fade out the scene or to just state something like “after we got done with our business” kinda thing. We don’t necessarily need to read every time they have sex.

However times when an author fades out too much can become frustrating cause you were in the zone and anticipating to actually read it! Part of the reason we read these books if for the set up of these types of scenes so by the time they are in the mood it’s dissaponting to not get to read it.  I enjoy a we’ll written sex scene as much as the next reader, please don’t dissapoint us!

The other time I find that sex is too much, is when there isn’t a connection. When a proper connection isn’t made I find the sex scenes to be over done and not worth the read cause the actual passion isn’t written for us to anticipate the scene. It almost become cookie cutter. But also sometimes they hop into bed too soon, not that this doesn’t sometimes work, but if we don’t even know the characters yet it’s hard to feel any kind of connection. I’m not saying all books need a slow burn, but most of the time we need to feel a connection from the characters to each other before we can really enjoy their sex scenes.

Granted sometimes a sex scene is just that and if written we’ll it doesn’t matter what’s behind it, it’s just fucking hot to read!

Some people say it’s all just smut and we read it cause it’s like female porn. Here’s my say on that……… most sex scenes are fucking hot and I enjoy reading them, however the reason I read romance is not only for the sex scenes. It’s for the story, the falling in love, the friendships and hilarious antics some get into. Most all authors in this genre write for the story that is in their head and if that story takes them to the bedroom (which it’s going to, we are reading about relationships and it’s highly unlikely a relationship isn’t going to lead to the bedroom) then they take it there. Really it wouldn’t be a great read if they didn’t!

As for the amount of sex in a book each couples story is going to differ. I’m not going to lie I wish my life had time for the amount of times some of these couples go at it. Realistically most of us just don’t have time to go at it 3, 4, 5 times a day or all night long my gosh we’d never get anything else done. However it is nice to dream isn’t it hahaha.

So what do you figure, how much is too much sex in a book?

Book Review: Running into Love by Aurora Rose Reynolds

This book was just what I was looking for, it was super good. I love Aurora Rose Reynolds writing. She draws you into the story and makes you feel what the characters are feeling. This story was no different, really well written, I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. It wasn’t super angsty, it had a great story line and was like reading a story about people you know falling in love. It was an easy read that drew me in and I didn’t want it to end.

So you have this kinda crazy really awesome heroine, Fawn and the fantastic Alpha male hero Levi. She is a teacher and he is an NYPD homicide detective, they also end up being neighbors. Oh what a small world it is really. These two had the chemistry that makes me love reading as much as I do. They had that spark that gives you butterflies and makes you root for them even when you don’t have too. I loved them together!

“I like you, I like that you’re a little bit crazy and a whole lot blind, but until I know you understand exactly what’s happening between us, there is no way I’ll take you to my bed.” Blinking at him, I try to understand exactly what the hell he’s saying, but all I can focus on is the fact that he called me crazy and blind. “I’m not crazy or blind.”

“Gorgeous, you’re so fucking stuck in your own head, you can’t see straight.”

The way they meet is hilarious and makes the whole first chapter pretty funny. I liked all the characters, even the secondary characters, it’s definitely set up that the secondary characters could get their own books which is awesome cause I’d like to spend more time with these crazy girl’s. I feel like if they were real we would totally have drinks and enjoy great nights out together haha. Both their families are a bit crazy and it adds to the hilarious antics that happen throughout the story. This book had a little bit of everything laughter, swooning moments, family, love, and some seriously hot moments. A really well done read and totally worth the time to get to know everyone.

“Jesus!” I finally get a grip on the cord and pull, which tugs the earphones out of her ears, and her body stills. “Are you crazy?” I grit out, and her eyes move over me, then to the cord in my hand.

“Oh shit. Oops!” she pants, covering her face with her hands. Oops? Is this chick for real?

I thought with how Aurora’s writing is, the suspense would be a bit more but in this story it was a little down played compared to her usual. However it worked in this story, this was a true love story and the whole story line worked really well all together. If you’re looking for a fun, easy read that portrays a great Alpha and two wonderful character’s falling in love I suggest this book. I enjoyed every second of reading and can’t wait to get into the rest of the character’s stories that I really hope she writes. Do yourself a favor and read this story and just lose yourself in love for a little bit, I’m sure you’ll love it too!

Happy Reading!

“You stole my heart and my breath the day you ran into me,” I say simply, and she pulls back, wiping away the tears on her cheeks.

“Who would have thought running with your eyes closed would lead to love?” she asks, and I grin at her

Shout Out To The Sisterhood

Last night I was checking out my favorite author’s Facebook page and found something very interesting, something I think we all need to see and learn from. Now my favorite author is Kristen Ashley, she rocks and she writes so fricking well. If I had even half her talent I would be a happy lady. One thing about her writing is her heroines not only rock but they rock with the sisterhood. Before I go into more checkout this video from her website and I’ll explain my reasoning for this post afterwards.

First I want to point out that I am a hairstylist and I didn’t notice any grey hairs watching this video until she pointed them out and even if I had I NEVER would have thought she needed to color her hair. Who was this person that thought they needed to be so rude as to put that in the comment section. My gosh is that how much hate is out there, that we feel it’s our business to be so incredibly rude over 5 grey hairs how ridiculous. Kristen Ashley put this statement within her sharing this video:

My mother taught me a long time ago, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I feel with the advent of the Internet, and the anonymity behind it, this life lesson often falls by the wayside. It sometimes isn’t just trolls being trolls. It’s the dash off of an opinion without thinking it through first, and what it might mean to the person who is on the receiving end.

This video shares a powerful story of what (and in this instance, it’s most certainly a troll) lay behind the target of an anonymous remark.

What it means to the person on the receiving end.

I agree, how come we forgot these simple life lessons, how sad is this person that they need to post something like that just to make themselves feel better?

I read a lot of books and in those a lot of them say let’s build each other up, the sisterhood needs to unite together not fall apart. We as women are already our harshest critiques. We can find any fault in ourselves and make it into worse than it really is, we don’t need others pointing things out only for us to make them into a bigger issue. We are all wonderful as we are, we need to start building each other up. We need to start helping each other out and pointing out our wonderful qualities so that the sisterhood can grow stronger together.

Right now there are so many terrible things happening in this world (the shootings in Vegas, the rally in Charlottsville, hurricanes, and so much more) we don’t need to be adding more to the mix of all the crazy. So my suggestion to everyone is why don’t we start giving out random complements to the other members of our sisterhood, let’s start building each other up again. Even if it’s a nice shoes, your hair looks awesome, sweet top, just something that may make the other person feel a little good about their choices.

I try hard in my reviews for books I don’t enjoy or aren’t what I was looking for, to not be mean that isn’t why I started this blog. I mostly did it to put my feelings about books in my reviews and that’s for books I loved, liked or disliked. So I hope going forward I can find some redeeming qualities in the books I didn’t like along with the things that didn’t work for me. However the great thing about reading is that some people enjoy things that others don’t, I’ll just try to be nice about the ones I don’t like as much.

So as I said let’s start a shout out to the sisterhood, start giving other women some compliments maybe we’ll stop being so hard on ourselves.

I would also like to give a shout out to all the victims, survivors and families that are going through so much right now with all the horrible tragedies. Our thoughts are with everyone.

Happy Reading!

P.S I checked out the stay at home chef youtube channel (the lady in that video) and it looks like that woman can cook! I may check out a few of her recipes to try out cause they look delightful! If you’d like to check it out here is her website
